Hanamaki Onsen Sights: Rose Garden, Falls & Shrine

Walk from Yumoto’s hotels to the Rose Garden, Kamabuchi Falls and Hanamaki Onsen Shrine between baths. The falls sit beyond the hotel grounds on the woodland path.

The Rose Garden

More than 6,000 rose plants grow in Hanamaki Onsen’s garden, with about 450 varieties across the beds. Roses surround the fountain and benches where visitors can pause among the flowers. Five circular beds form the anniversary garden. Olympia Rose 2020 grows at the center of each circle. Miyazawa Kenji designed the sundial flowerbed in another corner; it was moved here from Koyokan’s courtyard.

The outdoor roses bloom mainly from late May to early July. Plants grow under cover in the greenhouse throughout the year.

Kamabuchi Falls

Water runs over Kamabuchi’s broad rock face in several streams before dropping into the pool below. The rock measures 30 meters across and 8.5 meters high. A path loops through woods where sunlight filters between the trees. Kenji placed the falls in Daigawa, and the falls form part of the nationally designated Ihatov scenic landscapes.

The approach from Hanamaki Onsen takes about ten minutes on foot. The woodland circuit takes roughly twenty minutes.

Hanamaki Onsen Shrine and autumn color

Hanamaki Onsen Shrine stands within the hotel grounds at 1-125 Yumoto, opposite Hotel Senshukaku. A row of torii gates marks the approach to the Inari shrine. You can see the shrine, planted gardens and woodland on the resort walk. Leaves usually color from mid-October to early November. Leaves around the falls turn a little later, from late October into early November. You can see both settings on an autumn visit.

Getting to Yumoto

By car, the resort is about twenty minutes from Hanamaki or Shin-Hanamaki station. The public Hanamaki Onsen Line runs from Hanamaki Station to the hotel area. An adult single costs ¥510 (about US$3.20). The April 2026 timetable lists these examples from station stop 4.
